A Stylish New Year's Eve Winter Wedding

The ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi has become a current trend for jewellery design.

Originally Kintsugi was the art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold, celebrating the faults and cracks and actually making the piece stronger than original.

Tell us why you wanted to get married on New Year's Eve?

Well, New Year's Eve always seems to be a bit of a let- down the older you get, so we decided that we'd get married on New Year's Eve and give everyone a good reason to party!

I also liked the fact that we'd never forget our wedding anniversary date!

Talk us through the day?

We decided to have a small-scale ceremony at Brighton Town Hall with close family and then a fantastic reception at The Grand hotel in Brighton where we could celebrate with everyone and see in the New Year. The Grand Hotel is a beautiful Art-Deco hotel that overlooks the sea, the perfect mix of fun 1930s glamour and timeless romance.

You made your own Wedding Rings?

Yes, my husband proposed to me with a Grey Diamond ring from a local jeweller, it was a hexagon shape diamond so a traditional band wouldn't have worked alongside it. I am the Brand Manager at Posh Totty Designs, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to seek the support of the workshop team to help me carve our own.

I used the ring making kit and with the help of the jewellers I made an organic wishbone ring, and an organic hammered satin ring for Tom. Tom's wedding ring was cast in white gold and mine was solid Rose gold to match my wedding ring. The fact that they're handmade by us represents a lot more to us than just an off- the shelf ring.

What was your husband's verdict!?

Tom wasn't sure how he'd feel about wearing a ring, but he regularly looks at it and says ' I do love my ring, you did a great job' ...That's quite a testimonial for him to say something like that!

What was the most memorable moment?

There were lots of magical moments “ most of them unplanned! Probably my favourite memory was cutting the cake with my new husband. We couldn't find the knife, so we improvised and used a bread knife instead!
