An Interview with Emma Freud OBE

Emma Freud has been an avid fan of our jewellery for quite sometime now (lucky us!) so when she commissioned us to make personal thank you necklaces for the cast of Great Comic Relief Bake Off, we couldn't help but jump at the chance. Emma is known for being a broadcaster and cultural commentator but she also works with her partner Richard Curtis on his many film and charity projects. As you can imagine, she's a very busy lady indeed but we managed to pin her down for a little bit of chat...

We were over the moon to be making your thank-you bespoke necklaces for the Great Comic Relief Bake Off contestants this year.

what made you choose Posh Totty Designs for personalised gifts?

I've been using Posh Totty Designs for years now... I gave gorgeous personalised heart tag necklaces to the cast and crew of our last movie, About Time - and they were such a success... I still see members of the production company wearing them and it makes me ridiculously proud. And a couple of years ago you did a very funny bespoke pendant for me which I gave to all my girlfriends for Christmas. I oversaw the casting of the Comic Relief Bake Off shows, and wanted to say thank you to the Celebrities who worked so hard in that tent for so little reward...and it was a real delight to be able to give them their own special necklaces.

Dame Edna is seen sporting her signature-style jewellery on the show, including those rings!

How did she react to her personalised silver necklace?

She loved it! We had to use an extra long chain for her as, to be entirely honest, her neck has seen slimmer days - but it worked beautifully. Not sure how much use Barry Humphries will have for it though. Shame.

We love the idea of collaborating and creating some new and exciting jewellery collections in the near future.

Have you any thoughts on being involved in the design process for charities such as Comic Relief where we could raise money by donating the profits?

The whole joy of Comic Relief is that everyone does something different to support us, some people push themselves out of their comfort zone for the fun of it (like doing our 6 hour Danceathon at Wembley Arena), and some people do something they are already brilliant at but make it a bit more Comic Relief (like you producing and selling these amazing necklaces).

It's so inspiring to hear about the work you do, is there any exciting news you wish to share with us?

In May we are holding our first ever Red Nose Day in America. It's totally terrifying and we are really cutting our teeth there. NBC are hosting a whole night of Fundraising and Comedy on May 21st - Walgreens are selling 5 million red Noses - if it works it will be one of the greatest acheivements in Comic Relief's history. If it doesn't....eek.

What is your current personal favourite Posh Totty Designs piece that's on your wish list?

I like the personalised letter stacker rings. I gave lots of them away to friends last Christmas. This year, am hoping it will be my turn.
