The competition entries came flooding in but Hazel's English-Scottish long distance love story captured our attention. Since winning the competition, her man has proposed and the rest is English-Scottish union history! Read on for their winning submission...

My partner and I live almost 300 miles apart and he's about to give up his life down south in Wolverhampton to join me in Glasgow. As a very proud Englishman, one who sings the national anthem every time he crosses the border to see me, I know it's a massive challenge for him to move here. But he's making the choice to do that for me. When I met him online at the start of the year, I never imagined that this is where our journey would be taking us by now. If you asked me a year ago if I'd be spending Christmas with the love of my life this year I'd have laughed at the thought never mind getting the thought of us spending the rest of our lives together - which is what we intend to do.

I've been fond of the Vintage Map Pictures you produce as I think they're a lovely visual of what Mike & I have and represent. Nothing in our relationship should have worked based on the distance between us and our work circumstances. And yet we have. I'd love to proudly display both our home cities in the hearts to show everyone how our hearts and cultures have joined.

The winning map picture for Hazel and Mike We got in touch again after we heard the happy couple got engaged over Christmas...!

The proposal over Christmas was a really special night for us. We had chosen to go to a hotel just outside Glasgow for a couple of nights with both of our families, so they could all formally meet and allow Mike's relatives to take part in a Scottish Hogmanay party. We were all dressed up and had enjoyed a lovely meal as a part of our party night, I was sitting talking to my parents across the table when Mike tapped me on the arm. I turned round to find him down on one knee with the most beautiful ring in his hand. I immediately burst in to tears and started nodding my head. It was such a lovely moment to share with both our families and is a memory we'll all treasure forever as the best end to 2015 I could have asked for. Although about an hour later, Mike turned to me and said 'I don't think I actually asked you...will you marry me?' Of course I agreed, I was already wearing the ring!
