How to care for your Jewellery
The Golden Rules
Now that you have a piece of jewellery you love, here are some tips to keep it in gleaming condition
-
Always remove when showering or exercising. Avoid exposure to water, perfumes and body lotion
-
Gently polish your jewellery with a soft polishing cloth to bring back it's shine.
-
Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place. Our jewellery boxes are perfect for this.
9ct Solid Gold
Solid gold is a precious metal that is a durable and resistant to tarnishing so you can wear it almost all the time. Clean your gold jewellery regularly in order to maintain its beauty and shine. A soft, lint free cloth or even better a gold polishing cloth is an effective way to keep gold jewellery looking its very best.
Silver
All of our jewellery is made with 925 sterling silver. Silver tarnishes over time so avoid contact with water, sweat, lotions and perfumes. However, the oils in your skin help to prevent silver from oxidising faster. So, wear your piece often and store it in a jewellery box. If your silver is tarnished the best way to clean it is with a jewellery polishing cloth.
18ct Gold Plating
At Posh Totty Designs we love the warmth of gold. We hand plate your sterling silver jewellery with a thick layer (approximately 1 micron) of 18ct gold to ensure a very hard-wearing, durable finish with high shine. This finish will wear away over time and may require re-plating. To avoid the plating wearing away, make sure you avoid contact with water, sweat, lotions and perfumes. Clean your plated jewellery by buffing gently with a dry cloth and store it in an airtight jewellery box.
Black Fill
The black fill finish option is a by-product of the polishing process that collects in the indents of the text stamps. It can wear away after time when exposed to the elements above. We suggest cleaning your jewellery regularly and lightly with a silver jeweller’s cloth.
Diamonds
Diamonds are one of the hardest naturally occurring substance known; however, they can still suffer chips and fractures from sharp blows, so please take care when wearing and storing your diamond jewellery.
Clean your diamonds with warm soapy liquid and a soft toothbrush, rinsing the stone and setting afterwards to ensure no soapy residue.
Birthstones
We use an array of precious and semi-precious stones, from sapphires to citrine. All gemstones can be damaged by chemicals, water and even sunlight but prolonged exposure to the latter may cause certain gemstones to become paler. To keep gemstones clean and shiny, polish with a soft cloth.
Pearls
Pearls are sensitive, they are soft and can be scratched easily so don’t forget to treat them with love. As an organic material pearls react well to the natural oils in your skin so wearing them regularly is the best way to maintain and improve their luster and glow. Avoid contact with chemicals found in perfume or other cosmetics. Pearls should only ever be cleaned with a soft cloth moistened with water - not with any cleaning products. Allow the pearls to dry before storing them away.
